This opportunity was proposed earlier, but due to pandemics, it was delayed. Since it was handled smoothly, the country believes this is the right time to relaunch the idea. There are currently a variety of visas available to those wanting to visit Indonesia, including the Visa on Arrival (VoA), Tourist or Cultural Visa, and the country’s Free Visa, but these only last between 30 and 180 days. However, this ‘digital nomad visa’ doesn’t allow everyone to exception from the taxes. For example, Americans will still have to file taxes if granted one because the US taxes citizens based on citizenship rather than their residence.

  1. 99% of “digital nomads” don’t do any productive work. They spend just enough money to live. I expect the jobs they create will be low-end service jobs, not the sort of jobs that Indonesia wants and needs. I would love to be wrong about this.
